Jaybird Studios

Chief Operating Officer (COO)

About Us

Lagree West and Jaybird are sister brands, providing two different ways to move under one shared operating philosophy.

Lagree West offers high-intensity, low-impact, Pilates-inspired classes that build strength and flexibility. We're known for exceptional instruction, a strong mind-to-muscle connection, and warm service that feels personal. You’ll find us in seven studios across Vancouver and Victoria.

Jaybird is a mindful, music-driven experience in a heated infrared room, lit by candlelight. With four studios in Vancouver and Toronto, our Pilates- and Yoga-inspired classes invite you to be present, move with intention, and feel yourself on a deeper level.

Our Team

Joining our team means helping create the kind of experience people look forward to all day. We care about how guests feel in the room, how we support each other, and how we show up every shift. We hold ourselves to a high standard and take pride in delivering consistent excellence, from the first hello to the last stretch.

Our values of Creating Amazement, Growth Mindset, and Pure Connection shape how we show up for guests and for each other. They’re the standard we hold, the way we lead, and the reason our studios feel the way they do.

Role Summary

The COO of Jaybird Studios and Lagree West is the operational leader responsible for translating vision into execution. This role drives scale, discipline, and culture across the organization, ensuring the systems, people, and financial performance are in place to achieve our long-term goal of ~50 Jaybird locations within 10 years, while maintaining steady growth for Lagree West.

The COO is the CEO’s right-hand, accountable for operations, finance, and organizational design, with the potential to step into the CEO role in the future.

Jaybird and Lagree West are purpose-driven brands rooted in Growth Mindset, Pure Connection, and Creating Amazement; values that define how we lead, operate, and grow.

Core Responsibilities

Operations & Hospitality

  • Oversee operations for all current locations, ensuring world-class hospitality, consistent guest experience, and strong unit-level P&Ls. Refine SOPs, playbooks, labor models, and training to deliver consistency and scale. Partner with the CEO to execute industry-leading hospitality systems and memorable “wow” moments, with a strong focus on training. Continuously improve guest/member feedback loops (surveys, NPS, interviews) to drive loyalty and retention.

Financial Performance Management

  • Own the financial performance of Jaybird and Lagree West by driving revenue growth, profitability, and disciplined cost management. Establish clear financial metrics and accountability systems so every team understands how their work connects to results. Take direct ownership of unit-level and enterprise-wide P&L performance, building dashboards and KPIs that translate operational decisions into financial outcomes. Oversee cash flow, working capital, and capital allocation decisions related to expansion, hiring, and technology investments. Ensure the business remains financially healthy and positioned to fund growth from its own success.

Business Architecture & Organizational Design

  • Evolve organizational design in step with strategy and growth. Optimize the org chart, identify talent gaps, and develop recruitment plans. Lead or support management hiring, including sourcing, screening, interviewing, and onboarding top-tier talent.

  • Ensure clear, effective ownership of People + Culture responsibilities across the leadership team. Provide executive-level coordination and accountability for core people systems, including compensation + benefits, training + development, talent mapping, succession management, and development planning.

  • Regularly evaluate whether the company’s people systems, resourcing, and structure are keeping pace with growth, and recommend adjustments to roles, scope, or reporting lines when needed.

Culture & Leadership

  • Champion a culture of excellence, urgency, and customer obsession, rooted in honest, transparent, and frequent feedback. Lead by example to instill our values of growth mindset, pure connection, and creating amazement. Own the company’s performance management cycles, ensuring they both optimize performance and surface problems early, while fostering an “always-on” feedback culture where candor and coaching drive continuous improvement.

  • Build people development into the fabric of the business so every team member, from front desk to leadership, gains valuable skills that prepare them for their next chapter. Create a culture and programming that teach employees to think and act like business owners, leaving the company stronger, more capable, and more confident than when they arrived.

  • Act as coach, operator, and enforcer; building culture while ensuring accountability.

  • Drive alignment between leaders who own people programs and the operating cadence, so culture, performance, and development systems are coherent, measurable, and consistently executed.

Expansion & Growth

  • Lead the operational rollout of new locations across Canada and the US, and other cities (staffing, training, launch readiness, operational systems). Partner with construction to ensure a smooth handoff from build to operations. Develop repeatable checklists for efficiently opening new units without compromising quality.

Construction, Legal & Admin

  • Oversee construction team; responsible for delivery (budgets, timelines, accountability). Manage legal processes related to operations, leases, and compliance. Ensure risk management frameworks are in place across health/safety, insurance and crisis response.

Governance & Systems

  • Establish effective communication rhythms and meeting cadences that move priorities forward while preserving time for deep work. Align company priorities, drive execution on cross-functional initiatives, and remove blockers. Continuously evolve systems and processes to match the changing needs of the business.

2026 focus areas

  • Build a deep understanding of the business across all functions, including significant time on the studio floor.

  • Lead the successful openings of two new Jaybird studios in Toronto and NYC, delivered on time, on budget, well-staffed, and hitting performance metrics.

  • Fine-tune the organizational structure, ensuring the right people are in place for the next 18–24 months of growth.

  • Break down strategic and financial goals into clear KPIs that mobilize and align the workforce, and embed them into performance management, coaching, and development rhythms.

  • Strengthen leadership capability and bench depth across all functions through intentional coaching, talent reviews, and succession planning, reducing single points of failure as we scale.

  • Transition the CEO fully out of day-to-day operations, enabling focus on vision and guest experience

Candidate Profile

  • Proven track record in multi-unit hospitality, fitness, or consumer brands, with experience scaling across markets.

  • Strong financial acumen with direct P&L, cash flow, and investment responsibility.

  • Hands-on, execution-oriented leader who is willing to immerse in all aspects of the business.

  • Skilled people leader with a track record of building high-performing teams and driving accountability.

  • Strategic thinker able to balance detail-oriented execution with long-term planning.

  • Strong communicator who can align teams around KPIs and mobilize the workforce.
